It is difficult to categorise Joyce Grenfell.  She was an entertainer, writer, singer, film actress and broadcaster on both television and radio.  She died 40 years ago and yet her influence can still be seen through the work of today’s performers.

Joanna Lavelle has been performing Joyce Grenfell’s work for over thirty years.  Starting from the occasional sketch to a full-length show, called Choice Joyce.

In this talk Joanna will give an insight into Joyce’s background and her professional career and to answer the question of whether she is still relevant for today’s world.

About the speaker

Joanna is a member of Council and minute secretary of the Arts Committee. She trained with the London Academy of Music and Drama and most recently was part of the Buxton Fringe on-line festival, where she told four linked stories giving voices to overlooked victims of abuse - wife, police officer, mother - in a 'moving, compelling and thought-provoking drama based on real-life cases' written by Michael Sheath.  The stories can be viewed here (NB Adult themes).
