Happy Days – Theatre Group
Following the very positive response to the idea of organising a theatre group for Lit & Phil members, and the plan to see The Cherry Orchard in April, our next venture will be to see Samuel Beckett’s modern classic: Happy Days, starring Maxine Peake, again at the Royal Exchange. Tickets have been selling extremely fast and choice of dates & ticket prices was very limited, but we have managed to secure 21 tickets at stage level for the matinee performance on Thursday 31 May. Full price tickets are £31 but with the group discount they will cost members £29.50. As with our first visit, the discount also allows us a small surplus to pay for drinks & nibbles at our pre-show gathering (incl. an introductory chat about the play with Tony Jackson).
Availability of tickets is on a first come, first served basis.
WE HAVE NOW FILLED OUR TICKET QUOTA FOR THIS EVENT. PLEASE CONTACT THE OFFICE IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO ATTEND TO DISCUSS OPTIONS.
About the play
“THE DAYS GO BY, CERTAIN DAYS, GO QUITE BY, THE BELL GOES, AND LITTLE OR NOTHING SAID, LITTLE OR NOTHING DONE. THAT IS THE DANGER. TO BE GUARDED AGAINST.”
Winnie is stuck. Buried in a wilderness of scorched earth she survives the everyday with fragments of babbling optimism. But she has her armoury, the lipstick, the mirror and the bag.
From his cave her husband Willie hides in the shadows, as they both await the inevitable bell to ring in another happy day.
Following the success of A Streetcar Named Desire, The Skriker and Hamlet, Royal Exchange Artistic Director Sarah Frankcom and Associate Artist Maxine Peake continue their creative collaboration with Samuel Beckett’s surreal masterpiece, Happy Days.
